VRC Birdcage

Diadem delivers two Birdcage designs for Victoria Racing Carnival 2011

The Melbourne Cup Birdcage is one of the most exclusive marquees of the Spring Racing Carnival and the place to be seen. This year, the Lexus Birdcage was attended by Jamie Durie, the new ambassador of the Hybrid Lexus GS, while the Yellowglen birdcage promoted it’s Yellowglen sparkling wine.

Diadem was appointed by Lexus for the second year to work alongside The Big Group in creating an outstanding brand presence. Focusing on cost effectiveness, Diadem reused the 2010 marquee model and added value through refined manufacturing processes and procedures, with the added usage of furnishings and colour.  The Big Group completed the selections and installation of final marquee finishings, with Diadem acting as Head Contractor and Project Manager on the project.  Part of Diadems’ brief was to create and reinforce the ‘green theme’ throughout the marquee, while providing an opportunity to unveil the new Hybrid Lexus GS.

Diadem was also engaged to act as Head contractor and Project Manager for the Yellowglen birdcage. Working alongside MIM Design, Diadem focused on the cost effectiveness and buildability of the marquee design and implementing this into the physical environment. Mim Design nominated marquee furnishings and Diadem ordered, arranged and delivered these on site as part of the scope of their works.

Diadem focused on many other facets of both these installations, including the challenge to weatherproof the marquee structures. As with any temporary structure, placed on unstable ground, this is immensely difficult and demands creative usage of coverings e.g. doors and blinds, as well as effective sourcing and installation of materials and quality inspections.

Diadem needed to create aesthetically pleasing structures that exuded permanency but that would ultimately be taken down and stored away.

As the point of contact for all suppliers, Diadem based a project manager on site for two weeks to the event – instilling confidence in both clients and ensuring that the event ran smoothly and on time. Important decisions, last minute changes in structure or any issues with contractors could be immediately dealt with and an effective plan made.

The result was a creation of functional, modern and sophisticated spaces for race goers.

Diadems Melbourne Team, Gary Boschen and Natalie Djuric Schembi, received many compliments from the Yellowglen brand team on a job smoothly run and for contributing to the great success of the carnival.
